Aretha Franklin Autographed Display
Autographed by: Aretha Franklin (Deceased: 08/16/18)

Aretha Franklin was an American singer, songwriter, actress, pianist, and civil rights activist. Franklin began her career as a child singing gospel at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, where her father C. L. Franklin was a minister. At the age of 18, she embarked on a secular-music career as a recording artist for Columbia Records. While Franklin's career did not immediately flourish, she found acclaim and commercial success after signing with Atlantic Records in 1966. Hit songs such as "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)", "Respect", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", "Chain of Fools", "Think", and "I Say a Little Prayer" propelled her past her musical peers. By the end of the 1960s, Aretha Franklin had come to be known as the "Queen of Soul."

See Yourself Immortalized in a Caricature on the Wall of the Palm in DC

Become part of The Palm legend!

Caricatures have been adorning the walls of The Palm Washington DC since its opening in 1972. Now you can be part of this tradition. A custom caricature of the lucky winner will be featured alongside drawings of some of Washington DC's most famous faces.

The caricature tradition began as a twist on the phrase "sing for your meal" where an artist who enjoyed the fare would pay for his meal by drawing a portrait on the wall. Additionally, featured celebrities have often provided an autograph next to their portrait.

About Us:
The Rock and Roll for Children Foundation is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization committed to raising money to improve the health of children. We bring musicians together from some of the most famous bands in the world to perform on behalf of our beneficiary, The Children's Inn at NIH, a "home away from home" for the seriously ill children and their families while undergoing treatment at the NIH for their often life-threatening diseases. Our mission is made possible thanks to the selfless work of our volunteers, your charitable gifts and donations, and most of all, the talent and time that so many musicians gift us. Every cent outside of operating costs (such as postage, space rental, photocopying, etc.) goes directly to the Children's Inn at NIH.
